The .SE country-specific TLD was set up in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration procedure was very restrictive, so a very limited number of domain names were booked. Individuals could buy no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a requirement, i.e. only Swedish individuals, business entities and organizations were able to purchase a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened significantly and, consequently, the number of dot SE domains has been growing each year.

Presently, anyone can acquire a dot SE domain, which allows you to reach the Swedish net community even if you do not have a local presence.
